Brian Brunner holding the Math Day Championship traveling trophy, after Minneapolis South High School won Concordia's Math day contest in 2005
My name is Brian Brunner. I am in Academic Tutor for Saint Paul Public School's Indian Education Program. I have lived in Minneapolis my whole life. I graduated from South High School in 2006. I am enrolled in Leech Lake, MN. This is my third year with Indian education, and as an academic tutor, I will be mainly focused on tutoring math. My whole life, I have enjoyed math and working with numbers. When I was in 7th grade at Anne Sullivan Communication Center, in Minneapolis, I won a trophy for having the highest score on my math olympiad team. I was also on South's math team for 3 years, including two years as team captain. Our team had two big achievements while I was captain. The first was when I was a Junior. We got to attend Concordia University's annual math day competition. This was a double-elimination tournament. Patrick Henry High School beat us in an early round match, but we came back to beat them twice in the championship match. However, the next year, we made it to the championship match unbeaten including beating Math and Science Academy to get there, but Math and Science Academy beat us twice in the championship match, so we finished second. The other big achievement was when I was a Senior. Our team won the Minneapolis city conference, ending our streak of four straight second place finishes and sending us to state for possibly the first time in school history. My whole life, I have had parents, teachers, mentors, and elders tell me that I have a gift and to make sure I do something with that gift. Now I am only 21 years old, but I have found something that I am good at and that I love doing. This is my way of giving back to the community. "Children are the Future"
