My name is Kathy Denman Wilke, or Anaunaqqoquay. I am the Supervisor of the American Indian Education for the Saint Paul Public Schools. I come from the state of Michigan. My reservation is located in the middle of Michigan, by a town called Mt. Pleasant. Although I was raised in Flint, Michigan. I am from the Saginaw Chippewa Nation. I moved to Minnesota after I completed my B.S in social work and a Minor in American Indian Studies from Iowa State University. My first job was working for the Range Mental Health Center in Virginia, MN. I provided Social Work Liaison services to the Bois Forte Reservation. Later I moved to the Twin Cities Area and worked as a Social Worker and Family Violence Program Coordinator for the Indian Health Board in Minneapolis. I then went back to school and received a Parent Education license, and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. During that time I worked for the Early Childhood Family Education Program in the Minneapolis Schools. I was in the Minneapolis schools for fourteen years. In the year of 2000 I accepted the position that I now hold for the Saint Paul Public Schools. I feel honored that in all of my professional roles that I have been able to continue to work for our American Indian families in some capacity and hope to continue to do so for the remainder of my career. My second full time job is that of a parent. I have the privilege of being mother to three sons Zak, Travis and Dietrich. I am proud to say that I survived all the school years. Two of the, are now in college, and the oldest lives in the surrounding area. It is a great joy, as I watch them Develop into young men. At Indian Education, our main job is to work with you and your student to develop the academic and personal skills needed to be successful. Please feel free to call me at any time, or come to one of our monthly pow wows. We had over 3616 parent visits to our office and/or pow wows last year. It is my honor and pleasure to be a part of serving the American Indian Saint Paul Community.
